Parkway Village at Sherwood

This project has been a pretty controversial one for many reasons and I am sure you have heard about many of those reasons when it involves such a large corporation as Walmart on countless occasions.  But the great thing about my hobby is I find what they are building and watch the transformation happen and be excited regardless of who or what it is.  There are plenty of blogs out there who focus on that aspect so if that is your cup of tea, this isn't the place for you.  If you like to see progress on projects....welcome!

First let's start off with the site plan:

As you can see this project is huge.  The first phase, which is the left portion of the project, is the only part being built right now.  It has the major tenant Walmart, and 7 additional buildings.  These tenants have yet to be announced.  The second phase, yet to be approved will come at a much later date.

Secondly I'd like to show an aerial shot of where this is going:

That's a pretty significant piece of land!

In July, underground work began pouring piers and sewer.  That was completed by the end of September, and officially handed over to Walmart to begin construction.

Now the excitement begins because we can actually see the building taking shape.  I will do my best to at least post a weekly picture of the progress.  Here is the first one.  Hope you enjoy the journey with me.

What happened? A writing hiatus has ended....

Wow! It's been over a year since I posted any updates on the exciting projects I have been following.  In fact the new Safeway I talked about here is already complete and has been opened for a month. It really is a nice new store!  Also, the new, still unofficially announced, but everybody knows Apple store is well underway!  I have actually posted pictures on my google+ account in the last two months of that progress.  New major projects I started following in my writing hiatus are the Nyberg Rivers project anchored by Cabela's in Tualatin, the new trimet bridge in downtown Portland, and the new OHSU campus surrounding the new bridge in South Waterfront.  I have taken pictures on those projects, just didn't write about them or post any of the pictures.

Just to remind you - I get super excited with construction and development, my wife doesn't mind the hobby cause I could have a hobby that would cost a lot of money.  The only expenses with this hobby is the gas I use up driving around to get pictures.  Any way I just recently came from one of my quick drives around Sherwood, where I live, cause I was curious if any movement has been made on the new Parkway Village Shopping Center.  This new shopping center is being anchored by a Walmart Supercentre.  From July to the end of October a lot of underground work was being done, and I've been anxiously awaiting for above ground work to take place.  The permits were issued a few weeks ago and we now see walls going up.  So seeing the activity has spurred me to start updating this blog again.  Blogging professionals say to have a good following and a successful blog I need to set aside times to write and post more often.  I'm going to give it another shot.

Are there any projects you are curious about?  I'd be happy to look into for you!  It's oddly fun for me!

Stay tuned!!
